I'm a dog parent who wants to do the best by my canine companions. Almost a year to the day of writing, I lost one of my beloved girls to canine dementia. Just a few weeks after, her sister was diagnosed with Chronic age-related Kidney Disease. My world had changed and the peaceful, calm enjoyment we three had experienced for almost 15 years was gone.
This blog is really a way for me to process my thoughts and experiences of living with my senior dogs and the care they have needed as they have entered their geriatric years. Not the most glamourous part of being a pet parent but one there's not much information on, if like me you are left reeling after a diagnosis, trying to figure out how to do the best by your pet.
The last 12 months has been a huge learning curve that has led me to realise that there are things that we can do as pet parents to help our canine companions in their quest for quality longevity. A recent forum question asked what dog food diets could be given aimed at preventing the disease. The responses were resounding. If these pet parents could go back they would have started a homemade diet years ago.
I've always been a reasonable home cook so i began the journey of transferring these skills to canine nutrition.. If only it were that simple! Research, reading and now embarking on tutored learning about the specifics of canine nutrition have led me to publish this site.
As a valued visitor, i can promise i will share with you my honest experiences and learnings. I'm still on the journey so i would love for you to get in touch, comment or share any experiences of your own that can help pet parents reading this have the confidence to home cook and give their dogs fresh, nutritionally balance food.
Thank you so much for reading. I'd be delighted to hear from you if you would like to message me or you can visit my Facebook Page, Tails From My Kitchen,
